Three minutes, start to Flock

What are you bringing
people together around?

Pick the thing you'd happily talk about for three hours. That's the Flock. Name it, open a room, ask a few people in.

to talk about bread.

Chapter 3 · What to say in the pause

Nine members sent me the same question this month, so we recorded it. What to say when a client asks for the number, and what to do in the silence afterwards.

Priya Nair · 1d

The pause bit. I have never once let it sit that long and it works.

The middle is the book

Everyone can describe the opening. Most people can picture the ending. The middle is where the manuscript actually gets abandoned, usually somewhere around chapter eleven, usually quietly.

So this room is for the middle. Post the paragraph you are stuck inside, not the one you are proud of. Nobody here needs your best sentence.

Duie noticed a pattern

Three separate conversations about pricing appeared this week. Nadia, Priya and eleven others are circling the same question: what to say when a client asks for the number.

Nine of the eighteen people who came to the portfolio teardown have asked where the recording lives. There isn't one yet.

Comparison

Funnels chase people.
Flocks keep them.

Everyone enters at the top. Almost nobody is still there at the bottom.

The funnel

9,960 people were treated like a step they didn't complete.

The Flock

Fewer people arrive. Almost all of them stay, and they bring others.

1,140 of them are still here fourteen months later.
